Getting to & from the airport — the local way
ZQN is small and close to town, but it's also one of NZ's busiest single-runway airports and taxis get scarce in peak and ski season — so planning your ride ahead matters here more than most places.
Private transfer & shuttle

Orbus public bus
The Orbus service runs from the airport into Queenstown and Frankton for a couple of dollars, roughly every 15–30 minutes. Great value for solo travellers with light luggage — less practical with ski gear, a group, or on an early lift schedule.

There's a rank outside the terminal, but Queenstown taxis and rideshare are in high demand — in peak and ski season the wait can be long and prices climb. A pre-booked transfer is waiting the moment you land.

One terminal — domestic & international together
Queenstown runs a single terminal handling both domestic and international (mostly trans-Tasman) flights, so there's no inter-terminal hop — but it's compact and gets busy, especially in ski season.
Getting around inside
Check-in, security and gates are all a short walk apart, with cafés and rental desks on hand. Because the airport is small and popular, allow a little extra time at peak departures.
There's an airport curfew, so the last flights leave in the evening and the first arrive after dawn — arrivals bunch up. A pre-booked meet-and-greet means you're not competing for a scarce taxi with a whole flight of skiers.

Parking at Queenstown Airport
ZQN has parking by the terminal, but it's limited and popular — pre-booking is wise, especially in ski season. As a rough guide:
- Short-term — right by the terminal, best for quick pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Long-term — a short walk or shuttle away, cheaper by the day.
- Pre-book online — strongly recommended here; spaces fill fast in winter.
For a ski trip or a Southern Lakes loop, a return transfer usually beats scarce, pricey parking plus a rental — and you skip driving unfamiliar alpine roads tired after a flight.
