Getting to & from the airport — the local way
Cairns is small and close to the city, but there's no train — so how you leave still matters, especially if you're heading up the coast. The honest rundown:

The two terminals
Cairns runs two terminals, close together:
- T1 — International, for overseas arrivals and departures.
- T2 — Domestic, for Qantas, Virgin, Jetstar and regional flights.
The two are only a short walk apart — a few hundred metres along a covered path — so even a domestic-to-international connection is easy. It's a compact, relaxed airport, and bags come out quickly.

Parking at Cairns Airport
Parking sits right by the terminals, for every trip length. As a rough guide:
- Short-term / premium — closest to the terminals, best for quick pick-ups and drop-offs.
- Long-term / value — cheaper daily rates a short walk or shuttle from the terminal.
- Pre-book online — almost always cheaper booked ahead than driving up.
If you're island- or reef-hopping for a few days, a return transfer often beats leaving the car parked in the tropical heat — and you skip the drive back after a big day on the water.
